Please join us on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm CST for our Spring 2025 Research Webinar, Beyond the Game: Latinx College Athlete Experiences in Higher Education.
Latina/o/e/x students face significant barriers in their pathways to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), often navigating systemic challenges that shape their academic and athletic experiences. This research webinar will explore these barriers, shedding light on the structural inequalities that impact Latina/o/e/x student-athletes. The discussion will also highlight interventions aimed at driving change within the NCAA, focusing on ways to create more inclusive and supportive environments that better acknowledge Latina/o/e/x identities in college athletics.
Dr. Guillermo Ortega, an Assistant Professor of Higher Education at Texas Tech University, is leading this meaningful conversation. His research employs qualitative and quantitative methods to examine opportunities and outcomes for underserved college students, focusing on how institutions and the NCAA contribute to systemic inequalities that influence academic and athletic opportunities for Latina/o/e/x students. Dr. Ortega has been recognized for his impactful work, receiving AERA’s Early Career Award in Sports and Education and being named a Faculty Fellow for the American Association of Hispanics of Higher Education (AAHHE).
